GORILLA HILL CLIMB

After the success of the Autumn Classic ( thanks David Morton ) we announce the Strava timed Gorilla Hill Climb on the weekend of 17th and 18th October.

This year , to make it more inclusive, and to add some jeopardy as to who will win, we are racing on 4 fronts - the least steep is Clewshaw lane ( for those that aren't fans of the steep stuff, but still wish to take part), then there's the classic Gorilla Hill climb segment up Lea End Lane , and there an even steeper/longer segment up Ickneild street , and if you're totally nuts you can put your name down for all 3! You'll need to sign up via the spreadsheet on the events page of the website confirming which of the 4 options you intend to ride ( that will be locked in on Friday 16th October).

Then , in your own time, though there will be Sunday rides going out taking in these segments , you race your race over the weekend, and we will announce the winners on Monday 19th, with prizes being presented on Thursday 22nd October at H&H after our usual Thursday rides. There is an open and a women's prize for each of the 4 options for this members only event. So sign up now!

GORILLA ZWIFT

Gorilla Zwift is back on Wednesday 21st October led by Eugene Vichare . This is our regular Wednesday evening group Zwift ride, with band on to keep the group together, that will go all through the Winter. Join the GCC Zwift-ers whats app group in our community for updates.

FYI we did look at trying to use the My Whoosh platform, as we know not everyone has Zwift ( and you have to pay for it), but My Whoosh don't do group rides, and don't have a banding option at present.

EVENTS

Other dates for your diaries:

Friday 27th November 7pm - AGM/ Awards Night at Kings Heath Cricket Club . First drink free. Further details closer to the event.

Saturday 5th December - Santas Sleigh Ride ( Christmas Treasure Hunt) - this will also include a Christmas present Bric-a-brac stall collecting for our charity of the year selling your old cycling caps, books, tees etc.. ( so stuff digging out any stuff you wish to donate).

Friday 11th December - Gorilla Christmas party from 6.30pm at Schooners - Christmas jumpers encouraged.

GORILLA RACING

Harry G raced the Monsal Hill Climb last week , emptying himself to complete the 580m course (with 62 m elevation) in 2;07. Great effort mate.

GORILLA ENDURANCE

Meanwhile Joe Walker did a bit of audaxing - 210km worth, over 9 hours. Chapeau.

CITY OF CARS

Sarah Chaundler, wife of Gorilla Thomas Dickson, has just released a shorter version of her fantastic film, "City of Cars" about cycling road safety in Birmingham . If you're interested and haven't managed to get to a screening , here's a post with the link - http://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7511441444612632576/

THURSDAY RIDES

There are 8 rides up for Thursday - plenty of choice over speeds - head over to the ride sign up on the website, and use the coupon code freeride26 if its your first time.

Just a heads up, with the club trip being this weekend, and over 30 members heading off to the Tuscan coast, we maybe a little short on ride leaders for this Sunday, so please kindly understand and bear with. We'll all be back again the following weekend for the hill climb. Thanks.

Ride safe

Bruno
