Gorilla Easter Egg Hunt 2025 Results
The inaugural Gorilla Easter Egg Hunt took place on Sunday 20th April, with four intrepid teams of points (and chocolate) hungry explorers ready to take on the route finding scavenger hunt style event. The event was open to all over the bank holiday weekend, with a mass start of four teams leaving the H&H under glorious spring conditions at 9am on the Sunday morning.
Teams headed off in all directions to hit the various Places, ride the Parcours (Segments), and complete the range of challenges to accumulate as many points as possible within the 2:30hr time limit. It was clear that each team took their own unique approach, some opting for the elevation (mindless speed and power), some focusing on challenges (eating chocolate), and some just looking for familiar haunts (pubs/ football grounds). But in the end the Creme (egg), always rises to the top, and the encyclopedic route knowledge and experience of the winning team proved too much for the Strava route planning algorithms.
The clear winner - "The Easter bunnies and their Hutch" ( Páraic Scanlon, Steven Nelson, Sarah Damm and Neil Hutchins ) stormed to victory with an impressive 460 points. Behind them it was a lot tighter with only 1 point separating "On the 3rd day he rode again" ( Bruno, Phil, John Pears and Rachel Brown ) from "Who designed this thing?" ( Rob Garratt, Kris Rogers, Lee Holton and Damien Kimber) - 354 to 353. With "The Rolling Trackstands" - Eugene Vichare, Lee Tandy and James Barber getting a creditable 332 points in 4th.
The best description of the event came from Neil Hutchins (of the winning team no less), who described it on Strava as: "Orienteering on a bike. Surprisingly, tremendous fun!". Special mention to Neil Cocklin for supporting the event and Emma Lambert for delicious mini-egg treats in the sunshine at the H&H.
Well done to all the teams for embracing the spirit of the event and watch this space for more from this format!
